THE PARTY'S OVER...
I was a professional party promoter for 15 years, becoming a promoter after spending my first two years 1987/89 working with the biggest party's in the UK and although was still involved in a parties until 2012.
The party was over for me a long time ago. It had become restrictive, less creative with way too many boundaries
They say the definition of insanity is to do the same things over and over again, and expect a different result. I found myself going out for 30-40 hours at a time. The parties became much less interesting. Conversations on the same topics with the similar kinds of people kept taking place. It had all become repetitive and a bit stale
I wanted something more interesting...it was time.
After all I have been partying since I was 15 years old. It was 1976, I was lucky enough to go to Blue's and Shebean's in Brixton and Notting Hill where people toasted on the mic. I paid 35p to see the Clash and Sex Pistols at 100 Club. George Power and Greg Edwards filled me with jazz funk, while Crackers, 100 club and Global Village made me dance at "all-dayers". I saw the elite cocaine crowd at Embassy and Legends, and found the new romantics at Wag, The alternative London at Sin and Mud and the fetish crowd at Rubber Ron's
Then in 1987 Trev Fung, Paul Okenfold and Alfredo introduced me to dance music in Ibiza.
I fell completely in love with the feeling of freedom and decided this was my future, so left my job and with a pride in my stride and walked the streets of London, asking clubs to let me have a night at their venue.
When they laughed and refused - I broke into disused buildings and warehouses, and searched London for places to hold parties. I began to find so many places, I ended up finding land for big raves and worked with many including
Sunrise, Energy and Biology
I promoted my first party in 1989 where 4,000 crazed people in an disused mental hospital and toured Ibiza making parties at Ku, Amnesia, Pacha and Es Paradise
Two months later I founded and edited Clubland Magazine from 1989-1992, finding and breaking the most talented dj's, producers, artists and highlighting the best party promoters. While covering subjects such as colour psychology, street art, drugs, spirituality and club fashion. The magazine which began in London, then went UK wide, then Europe and finally moved to the USA
Between 1992-2000 I promoted over 400 underground parties, my promise was to never go mainstream, and over the years more then 300,000 people came and had fun with me. Many of the worlds best dj's played and I introduced many new dj's to the crowd. I used the big clubs in Ibiza and almost every single London club. Although the best party places were the unusual one's - the caves, underground car parks, old hospitals, gyms, office buildings and those beautiful empty mansions!
In 2002 I began producing events within the entertainment industry, and was lucky to have worked with Chemical Brothers, Bjork, Vivienne Westwood, N.E.R.D, Tom Ford and Prince, as well as companies like MTV, Universal Records, Becks, Gucci and Apple. My last official party as a promoter was back in 2005 "Legends Reunion" in London.
Although I was helping friends run a weekly party in Goa from 2008-2012
So here I am in 2014 being creative...and completely in love with life once again!
This time it's an amazing woman, her little girl and our project in the South of France.
An artistic guest house and creative hotspot...and guess what? We started a live music night, with Junkerry on electric guitar and live computers, while I spin on the decks...it seems the party not over just yet!
3000monks...are always grooving
