±5 Drugs

Yeah, we hear you, drugs are dangerous. No two ways about it, they can be addictive, plus there are people in uniforms who will lock you in a small room if you use, sell, manufacture or transport the stuff around.
Over the past 100 years, governments have built an Orwellian type of culture around drugs, enforcing the notion of abuse and crime. Spent trillions on a propaganda machine called the "war on drugs", and the outcome of this massive investment was...an epic explosion of drug use!

The medical advantages of Marijuana are public knowledge, so common sense is prevailing. Many states and countries have relaxed laws, conceding it's absurd to outlaw a plant - especially one science proves is beneficial to us.
Although, some countries are still behind the curve and strictly forbid use…however, often within that country, there are regions where it's permitted. The situation is ridiculous, where nobody has a scooby-doo what's going on legally.

There is a booming worldwide market for controlled Psychedelic experiences, as people seek new paths. There's also a huge amount of high quality research to support how these drugs can reward our society.

So here's an idea, lets move toward...making all-natural drugs legal, and psychedelics compulsory for some people!

Okay, let's be crystal here, its natural drugs we're talking about, nothing with man-made substances added.
This is not really a new idea, our ancient relatives knew why we should embrace these...

The human history of use stretches back thousands of years. These plants once played an essential part in our lives in rituals, ceremonies, and passages into adulthood. They helped us connect with nature. Resolve personal dilemmas, and most importantly enhance our understanding of the world around us.

Okay, sit comfortably as you read the next paragraph as it may appear off-beat at first...
A course of natural drugs should be compulsory for everyone paid by public funds - administrative personnel, politicians, police, etc. They would need to obtain a license showing they've taken a course of natural drugs - to be renewed regularly, say every two years.

Shamans, guru's, tribal leaders, kings, queens, philosophers, writers, musicians and countless cultures have advocated plant drug use, to seek answers, to discover the inner self, to create and to heal. Now that may sound like some spiritual blah blah - but in this crazy, materialistic, corporate, money-grabbing, vanity soaked world, don't you think the people we pay to organise and govern us, would benefit from a touch of humanity and honesty?

We all need a reset from time to time. Yes, there’s a reset button, but we keep looking in the wrong places - like alcohol, hobbies, holidays and such. This only pauses the system. A week or two later, you revert to previous patterns.

To really hit reset requires a significant event. Such as childbirth, near-death experience, a death in the family, divorce. Basically the system needs a jolt. Natural drugs help induce this essential connection. To blow away the cobwebs, unblock the senses and open the mind. When this occurs it generates the opportunity to make adjustments.

Every night your brain produces the chemical DMT, it's those beautifully crazy dreams. Ayahuasca retreats around the world are soaring, Because people are interested in developing themselves outside the usual channels. They are actively seeking a DMT hit for a fundamentally life-changing experience to improve themselves.

Serious studies into psychedelics have finally been permitted, with research already suggesting Ayahuasca can lead to significant increases in mindfulness abilities and promotes neurogenesis (the growth of new brain cells). Research is taking place into how controlled doses of LSD help with depression and terminal illness, as it unlocks the mind.

There are already centre's, where adults can go and experience natural drugs with the guidance of a qualified person, trained to various levels, a bit like a gym trainer or psychiatrist. For personal development or issues, you wish to address. Psychedelics may not be the answer to the world's problems, but they can certainly be a key element in helping us search for the answers.

Schools should be teaching the positives and negatives of drugs from say age 13, giving our children a better understanding of how drugs may affect your life, both for good or bad. We've tried decades of frightening the ka-ka out of them - perhaps it's time to supply them with real education.

Two realities...
1. Drugs for pleasure or as an escape from life’s challenges can be harmful. Running away from your problems never really works out. It just makes them smoulder and manifest in other parts of your life. This will undoubtedly reduce your life experience. Taking drugs for pleasure is super fun, but once it becomes a pattern, your brain craves those surges of endorphins, and over time it gets harder to feel socially fulfilled without them.

2. Natural drugs can help in many ways, medically. Far more importantly, they seem to empower us to behave with respect for each other and for our planet. Not only are we discovering this scientifically, but we have thousands of years of human experience to back this up. Almost every civilisation used natural drugs for progress, and we did too until the US government began the war against drugs.

Perhaps the crazy part of this little idea is the most compelling;

Use natural drugs to get those in power to make decisions that benefit society, instead of feeding their own agendas. Without doubt natural drugs can help us explore how to grow and advance ourselves as a civilisation - perhaps this is the reason that governments see them as dangerous, and fear the possibility that society may discover their true worth.

These are a few meditative reflections on an intriguing topic from 3000monks. Not intended to induce a For or Against debate or create a footballism attitude where you must take sides... it is merely an idea!
