iDEA'S FROM THE FAR CORNER

±2 Refugees

Yeah, we know precisely what you mean, those wretched refugees are causing a terrible strain on our resources, plus they're really dangerous. Something has to be done...

Oh, wait no! We don't mean you Kostas, you Tameka, you Gabriela, you Yousiff or you Chan. You've been here for years. You're okay. We mean those other immigrants. The ones without enough food, water or shelter, who have lost everything, and fleeing because someone is bombing the ka-ka out of them.

Yes, those blameless people, whose leaders had the temerity to disagree with our way of life.
Refusing our godlike corporations, not wanting our banks, arms or cell phone companies. Countries who dared to halt our relentless pursuit of profit. Outrageously wishing to do their own thing.

Let's be straight, hateful leaders are popping up all over the world, so why are we surprised people are trying to get away from them?  The migration dilemma is making good people think like racists. Oddly not because their skin is brown, black, yellow or blue. It\s not even due to a lack of care...

The fact is, we're being served a narrative about how they affect our daily lives. Governments insist these people are diluting funds needed for local services. Claiming these are frightening people who wish to take your job, get welfare, steal your things or hurt you. It's pure poli-tricks.

Take a step back from the blah blah, ask yourself "why are these people trying to get into my country? The answer is super simple; for a better life. Is that bad, to want to better their circumstances? Isn't that the reason we all move to another house, city or country?

Economic migration has gone on throughout human history. It's happened these past few years - after Covid people in many areas are going to struggle in extreme ways. W
hy wouldn't they seek safety in another place if they were in danger or didn't have basic needs such as food/water?

Governments conveniently forget to mention how imposing sanctions or beginning conflicts in far off places, can resonate back home. They make promises to those people, but seldom deliver on their commitments. Then act bewildered when people want to escape. They even get offended when some of those people come seeking sanctuary.

So here's an idea...Governments involved or supporting a conflict must accept it's refugees.

This is not a new idea, for centuries Indians, Africans, Polish, Italians, Irish, Jews, Mexicans, Japanese and many others were promised and granted places in our countries, as recompense for helping us fight a war, or because our government took their resources or bombed the b-Jesus out of them!

Genuine people don't wish to inflict harm upon others, nor make anyone homeless. Absolutely, we don't want anyone to suffer the loss of children, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters or friends. Sadly, war is an extremely profitable business, and governments are soaked in this ruthless trade.

Iraq & Iran had an abundance of oil and cash reserves (Iraq an estimated $900 billion), who benefited from that money?
Unquestionably it wasn't the people of Iraq or Iran. Yup, you guessed right, it was those banks and corporations who came out smelling of jasmine.

Want to know why your city, town or village is spending less on local services? Consider this...
Far away conflicts are rarely between two nations. Multiple countries get involved in various ways. So it's a full-press against that nation. This means expenditure, and the bigger the player - the bigger the investment.

To date, the USA has spent 3.6 trillion on the Afgan, Iraq, Iran and Syria conflicts. Britain has spent 334 billion.
Russia has spent 800 million on Syria alone. Just let those figures settle in your mind...Now remind yourself, that all three are massively in debt and have been cutting public spending for the past three decades.

Almost every major country is involved in these conflicts because it's profitable and guess who's paying?
Yup, through taxes, we pay for all the political involvement, military, ships, fighter jets, weapons, every associated costs, and once we've destroyed and taken over. Corporations stroll in, to rebuild and keep the profits!

Imagine owning a massive superstore where everything is paid for - the goods, marketing, advertising, transport, staff wages, management salaries. The computer systems, all the people needed to support you. All food, travel, pensions, medical and health cover, legal fees, construction costs, maintenance, and every single thing involved in your superstore...

Now everything you sell is sheer profit - Wait. It gets better because everybody in that country is forced to only buy from you. How's that for a funky business model?

Our leaders are committing us to spend millions upon millions on so-called conflicts, then they give the benefits to corporations. And when it creates refugees, they squeal and persuade us, the problem is those pesky innocent refugees!

Immigrants are not challenging your way of life. Not coming to steal your job, soak up local resources or murder you.
They are human beings. Who have been made homeless and your country has most likely aided in their current situation.

Sure some people want to enter our countries illegally, and every nation has borders with the relevant personnel to handle this. But when thousands of people suddenly decide to leave their homes, possessions and friends to travel on foot over vast distances or cram onto small boats risking their children's lives, to cross an open sea.
That is an an act of desperation.

Governments must be held to task when supporting conflicts, to take responsibility for their actions, acknowledging finances will be required for refugees.

We as nations are creating refugees, causing massive amounts of suffering and death. Therefore, as nations we must behave with tolerance, show compassion and stop blaming innocent people who genuinely need our help.

These are a few meditative reflections on a scandalous topic from 3000monks
Not intended to induce a For or Against attitude where you must take sides…it’s merely an idea!
